A 1984 graduate of Northern Arizona University, John went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy (GDMT) in 1991 and a Masters in Physiotherapy in 1996 from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists (AAOMPT), and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the Institute for the Advancement of Orthopedic Physical Therapy (IAOPT), and the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Since 1991, John has taught Manual Therapy courses to physicians and other medical professionals around the nation and world. John has also run his own year-long orthopaedic manual therapy course at his private practice in Grass Valley, California from 2000 to 2010 and, prior to that, in Santa Cruz, California from 1997 to 2000. In addition, he has pursued his commitment to teaching manual therapy through providing mentoring in several fellowship programs in manual therapy. He has mentored students from the Evidence in Motion fellowship program since January 2011 to the present. John also mentors and is on faculty for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship, Mentorship, Orthopedic Residency and Advanced Skills Programs. John has taken on a lead role of teaching weekend intensive continuing education courses for Evidence In Motion since 2013.
John completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy program in the summer of 2012 through Evidence In Motion. He feels the need to stay up-to-date with the changes in evidence-based practice is critical.
In addition to achieving his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2012, he also completed the Comprehensive Pilates teacher training from Polestar Pilates in 2012. He was then awarded the certification of Pilates Method Alliance – Certified Pilates Instructor (PMA-CPT) in March 2013.
John and co-owner Matthew Johansen, MPT invented the Myotool (www.myotool.com). This self-treatment tool allows one to mobilize their own spinal joints, as well as perform many other soft tissue treatment techniques. The Myotool has been on the market since 2005 and has seen steady growth in use.
John’s 16 years in Grass Valley have allowed him to grow his private practice, Body Logic Physical Therapy (www.bodylogicphysicaltherapy.com), from one Physical Therapist on staff to seven Physical Therapists and two Physical Therapy Assistants. The broad range of expertise allows his clinic to treat a wide variety of clientele and provide a comprehensive range of services.
John enjoys his leisure time salsa dancing with his wife, training and racing his many bikes (road, mountain, cyclocross) and hanging out with his kids.
